Are we heading towards World War III ?

Nobody can predict the future. Nobody can even venture the wildest guess as to what will happen beyond the very empirically demonstrated scientific phenomena (i.e.: the Sun will come up tomorrow). Nobody knows. Stop worrying about it.

All evidence suggests NO.

Turn off your TV. Stop watching the news. Wars are decreasing and so are deaths from wars. Contrary to what you've been told, but most nations aren't suicidal. Any nation engaging Russia, China, the USA, Britain or France are totally suicidal as any of those nations possess sufficient nuclear weapons to end any one nation on the planet. Even Britain, with ostensibly the smallest (yeah, I hear you China -- you're full of shit, your nuclear stockpile is bigger than the UK's or France's and why shouldn't it be?) with just four nuclear ballistic submarines, with just 16 SLICBMs each (with up to 8 MIRVs each) or 65 intercontinental ballistic missiles and 512 (maximum, but likely half that) warheads. That means at a conservative 250 cities, Britain could end the USA, Russia and China politically speaking (a mere 10 strikes in each nation could cause it to collapse, if only temporarily).

Even if we assume that we are using only conventional weapons, that war will be very costly. Even with all it's military might, US and NATO wouldn't be able to occupy and control a major military power like China or Russia. They couldn't even keep Iraq or Afghanistan. And also war is bad for business. It will kill the economy. Nobody wants to starve to fund their soldiers overseas.

That is the kind of "thing" that prevents WWIII. There is too much money to be made through stability. All of the people fretting about telling you that the world is going to end are idiots. Okay, maybe not idiots -- the world is going to end one day. Just not in your lifetime.
