Radio Garden allows listeners to explore processes of broadcasting and hearing identities across the entire globe. From its very beginning, radio signals have crossed borders. Radio makers and listeners have imagined both connecting with distant cultures, as well as re-connecting with people from ‘home’ from thousands of miles away – or using local community radio to make and enrich new homes.

Radio Garden incorporates results from the international research project Transnational Radio Encounters directed by Golo Föllmer at Martin-Luther University Halle, in co-operation with the Universities of Copenhagen and Aarhus in Denmark, London Metropolitan University and the University of Sunderland in the UK, and Utrecht University in the Netherlands. The project was funded by HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) from 2013-2016.

Radio Garden is developed in co-ordination with the NETHERLANDS INSTITUTE FOR SOUND AND VISION.
